Passion Pit at The Peabody Opera House, 2.26.2013
Passion Pit’s music is undeniably multicolored, with synth squiggles and layered vocals rushing in from every angle. When I photographed them in 2010, their light show was a perfect reflection of the music — big, bright, hazy, and dripping with color.
Granted, that was 2010. In 2013, Passion Pit is still playing chromatic pop, but on a somewhat more refined level. Their live show at The Peabody reflected this with a slightly more restrained setup — bright and colorful, but tempered with well-defined spotlights (and a suit and tie on frontman/mastermind Michael Angelakos).
That’s not to say the band’s energy has faltered. It hasn’t. But damn, some bands just clean up nicely.
